About Wang’s Picnic
Wang’s Picnic helps students and researchers follow recently published work across political science, sociology, public policy, political communication, research methods, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
Why the project began
Graduate reading is often dominated by assigned classics and immediate research needs. Because new work is scattered across publishers, journals, and websites, following it all takes considerable time. Wang’s Picnic offers an accessible form of academic news that helps readers stay aware of new developments.
How it works
The project periodically compiles articles already published online or appearing in the latest journal issue, using journal RSS feeds and Crossref. Readers receive a concise email digest, while subscriptions and removals from the Google Group are handled manually.
Relation to Paper Picnic
Wang’s Picnic was inspired by Moritz Marbach’s Paper Picnic and its regular digest format. It broadens the range of journals and combines RSS with Crossref to cover core political science outlets and related social sciences.
Coverage
Coverage includes Chinese- and English-language journals in political science, sociology, public policy, political communication, research methods, artificial intelligence, and related fields. The maintained journal database is the authoritative list.
What each issue contains
Entries generally include the journal, article title, authors, abstract, and a link to the original publication, helping readers decide what deserves closer attention.
When information may be incomplete
Recent articles primarily means work already published online or included in the latest issue. It does not cover every accepted manuscript that has not yet appeared online. A small number of entries may lack authors or abstracts when publishers do not provide them.
